Mastering the Art of Goal Setting: A Blueprint for Success
Why You’re Failing at Your Goals (And How to Fix It)
The Power of Setting Effective Goals
Here’s the lesson to this letter:
If you don’t set clear goals, you’re unlikely to achieve them.
Setting effective goals is not for the weak.
Without well-defined goals, tracking progress becomes difficult, and your daily decisions lack direction.
You think you can just wake up and set your big goals, when in reality there’s a science behind it and you’re far way from that.
It’s not necessarily your fault because you were never taught about this, it’s not the kind of thing that’s normally taught in school.
School teaches you wide knowledge but it doesn’t teach you the tools to achieve your own goals.
When it comes to setting precise goals, every choice you make needs to align with your vision, guiding you towards success.
Don’t be like most people who assume goal-setting is easy—you don’t just pick a target and get yourself to work.
In reality it’s not that simple.
The takeaway here is that there’s a deep science behind this skill, and only those who master it are able to achieve what they set out to do consistently.
This is why so few people succeed, and the masses are mired in mediocrity.
You need to avoid this trap.
Let’s explore the traits of high achievers then, and break down why most people struggle.
I want to introduce to you a framework that gets you started on setting effective goals whilst approaching them in a way that will get you to succeed.
A Wake-Up Call: Why Most People Fail
For years, I believed that setting goals was as easy as writing them down and just thinking about them all day.
I even judged those who I thought lacked a vision, calling them lazy or unmotivated.
I thought because of my aggrandising goals I’d be in the top 1%.
Then, I had a realization:
I wasn’t any better than the people I judged because even though I had these great goals I still wasn’t achieving them.
So what better was I?
I was just “self-righteously” judging them, not knowing that in reality I was just like them and there wasn’t anything special about it.
This was my wake up call.
I had to find a way to find out why I was failing. I got into a deep research.
The reality was this:
I wasn’t failing because my goals were impossible,
I was failing because I never learned how to set them effectively and protect them from what steals them away.
I was in a sinking boat without realizing it.
This truth hit me when I looked back at all the goals I had ever set but never achieved.
I was making the same mistake twice, as everyone else.
I wasn’t using the right framework.
Today, that has changed for me.
The Urgency Factor: How To Push Yourself To Work
Nipsey Hussle once spoke about his discomfort with being careless.
His point was emphasizing how people often walk “happily” through life without feeling the urgency to push themselves further.
He said that for himself—he believed in exhausting every possible option to reach his goals—something that separated him from those who were merely wishful thinkers.
Think back to your school days.
How often did you procrastinate when given assignments until the deadline was near?
And yet, as soon as the deadline approached and the pressure kicked in, you zoned in and completed the task efficiently.
What helped you in those days? Urgency.
One of the biggest reasons we fail nowadays is that we do not have a sense of urgency to propel us to achieve our goals in record time.
We need to set clear deadlines.
Without a sense of urgency, we have absolutely no reason to act.
When you define your goals and give them a firm deadline, your brain registers them as important priorities, and that makes you more focused and motivated to achieve them.
Your Goals Are Closer Than You Think
We often think of our goals as things—money, cars, a dream house, a thriving business, or a perfect relationship.
But if we strip these desires down to their essence, we find that they are not just about material things.
A big meta-goal for you may be wealth, for some financial freedom, some time freedom, and for some maybe love.
At their core, our goals are states of being.
Wealth is not just about money—it’s about security, freedom, and power.
Financial freedom isn’t about having a certain number in your bank account—it’s about peace of mind and the ability to live life on your own terms.
Time freedom isn’t about quitting your job—it’s about having control over how you spend your days.
Love isn’t just about finding a partner—it’s about deep connection, acceptance, and belonging.
What these all have in common is that they are not tangible.
They exist not as objects but as states of mind, states of being.
And because they are not physical, you cannot reach them simply by following generic advice from the world.
They require intensive inner work, and sometimes spiritual guidance.
This also means you can’t ChatGPT your way into them, you need to take them seriously.
Why Most People Struggle to Reach Their Goals
People fail to achieve their goals because they treat them as external achievements rather than internal transformations.
They believe that if they just follow the right steps—work hard, save money, go to the gym, network with the right people—everything will fall into place.
But the truth is, success isn’t just about action.
It’s about alignment.
If you are not mentally, emotionally, and spiritually aligned with your goal, no amount of external effort will bring it to you.
You can grind for years and still feel broke because deep down, you don’t see yourself as wealthy.
You can chase relationships and still feel lonely because you haven’t built love and connection within yourself.
You can try every productivity hack and still feel stuck because you haven’t embodied the mindset that fits to your own reality.
This is why achieving your goals requires deep inner work—the kind that cannot be outsourced, Googled, or “ChatGPT-ed” into existence.
Here’s a framework for you to make the required change:
Your goals need to have a plain and impactful structure.
Setting goals without structure is like setting sail without a map.
You need a system to ensure you stay on course.
Follow these three foundational steps to create goals that lead to real success:
1. Define the Outcome
What does success look like to me?
How will it feel when I achieve it?
What benefits will it bring to my life?
You need to answer these questions as honest as you can, before setting your goal.
Then …
2. Identify the Requirements
What specific actions will I need to take?
Are these actions realistic and achievable?
Can I break them down into small, manageable steps I can take everyday.
Then …
3. Set a Deadline
Assign a clear, non-negotiable deadline to your goal.
Deadlines create pressure, which keeps you focused.
If needed, break the deadline into smaller milestones.
When you follow this framework, your goals will shift from being vague ideas into structured action plans that drive real progress for you.
Now let me tell you the cost of not solving this…
The Cost of Not Learning This Skill
Most people never achieve their dreams, you’ll be one of them.
Not because you’re not capable, but because you’re not learning this science effectively properly.
I hate this group of people, but I try to be empathetic.
They are a big demotivation to the world and their sob stories rub off on their children.
Some people give up, and others never start.
This is a slow progressive, fatal disease.
The end result?
You’ll be stuck in the same place, year after year.
Meanwhile, the people you admire—and those who seem to have it all together—they’ll be succeeding.
The painful part is that you aren’t any different from them.
They just worked smarter than you.
How This Realization Changed My Life
For a long time, I didn’t understand why my peers were succeeding while I remained stagnant.
Deep down, I knew I wasn’t doing enough.
I felt like I was failing, but I couldn’t figure out why.
This self-doubt crept into every area of my life—my relationships, my work, my money, and even into my self-worth.
I unknowingly labelled myself as a loser behind my back, and that mindset sabotaged my potential.
Then, everything changed.
I researched these goal-setting strategies.
I studied successful people and analysed how they structured their goals.
The difference was clear: they had mastered the skill I had ignored.
Now, I’m sharing this knowledge with you.
What Happens When You Master Goal Setting?
You start setting goals effectively and everything changes.
You know exactly what to do when obstacles arise.
You build business with clarity and strategy.
You increase your income and can reach financial freedom.
You attract the right people into your life—supporters, mentors, and partners.
You start moving toward your dreams in a way that feels natural and achievable.
And perhaps most importantly, you’ll become unrecognizable to those around you.
They will see your growth.
They’ll wonder how you transformed so quickly, and then they’ll start looking to you for guidance, or just be jealous.
Don’t Let Your Mind Trick You
It will try to convince you that setting goals is easy and that you don’t need to “waste your time” learning this.
But if that were true, why haven’t you already achieved everything you’ve ever wanted then?
Why are you still in the same place?
Today is your chance to change this.
Learn this skill. Master it. And take control of your future.
We need to build our dreams—one effective goal at a time.
